A page from the personal diary of Divyanka Tripathi I just cannot forget that day; perhaps it is the luckiest day of my life. It was 24th September 1993, and those memories are still very fresh in my mind and I don’t want to forget it. I must have been about nine when my mom was admitted to hospital with labour pains. It was late in the night and I was very scared when I learnt about it. Since my mom was pregnant, my mami had come to stay with us and she used to take good care of us. It was about 3am when my mami woke my elder sister and me. She said that we were going to the hospital to meet mummy. I was so scared and could feel that I was shivering. I was just praying that everything should be fine, because my mami did not inform us that my mom has had a baby. When we reached the hospital room I saw my father coming with a baby in his hand and smiling at us. I was so happy to see my brother in my father’s arms. My brother was sleeping and I instantly called him Bhondu. He looked so sweet and innocent but dull! This is why I named him bhondu. I was so happy that the next day I treated all my class mates with samosas. The samosas in my school canteen were very famous and all my friends enjoyed eating it. My brother is nine years younger to me and I treat him like my own baby. Actually I should say I almost became a mother to him. Recently I had gone to meet my family and he said he wanted to have dogs at home. I was strictly against the idea because he himself is a baby and I thought he won’t be able to take care of them. But he started crying and I asked him to buy them. I just can’t see him crying. He is 15 now and I am going to my home town to celebrate his birthday on 24th of this month. Now he wants to buy a bike. Though I am against the idea, but he has promised me that he will ride it only at 40 km speed. I will but him a nice helmet this time.
