There are huge pockets in India where women are still objectified and judged: Mehul Nisar
Mehul Nisar is currently seen as Bhavesh Joshi in Rajan Shahi's hit TV show "Anupamaa". The show revolves around the life, and struggles of a homemaker and in a way is reflecting the reality. The actor agrees that though we have progressed as a society, there are still some regions in India, where women are still "objectified and judged".

He says the show represents all those women who forget themselves while taking care of their family.

"No matter how much we claim that we have become progressive, but there are huge pockets in India where women are still objectified and judged and questioned at everything they do. We have come up with fancy names like a homemaker or a wonder woman, but the fact still remains that even today in a joint family if something goes wrong the first one to be blamed is the lady of the family. 'Anupamaa' is representing millions of those women who give everything for their family and are at the receiving end from each member of the family. Forget appreciation, housewives, and mothers don't even get acknowledgment for what they do from their family members," he said.

Though the show is about a woman and her struggles, every character in the show has something to add to the storyline. The "Hip Hip Hurray" actor praised the producer for this and said, "That is the beauty of Rajan Shahi's shows. A character is never wasted in his shows. Every character which is introduced in his shows gets his due sooner or later. He has something to add to the story to take it ahead. Really an award of appreciation to the creatives and the makers of Rajan Shahi's shows."

He also appreciated the producer and his production house Director's Kut Productions' efforts in taking care of the whole cast and crew especially during these tough COVID days.

"Rajan Shahi's shows are home away from home for actors. Actors are so well taken care of and pampered. Especially in these COVID-19 times, actors are made to feel secure enough so they can give 100% performance also the kind of bonding having lunches together makes them feel like a family and extended family apart from their own family," he said.

Mehul's on-screen character Bhavesh is the lead Anupamaa's brother. The latter is played by Rupali Ganguly. He revealed that he got along well with the actress, and they are now not just on-screen brother and sister, but off-screen too.

"I got along very well with Rupali. She is a very sweet person. Rupali tied Rakhi on my wrist on the actual Raksha Bandhan day when we shot for the Raksha Bandhan special episode. We realised this and now we are not only on-screen brother and sister, but also a brother and sister in real life. Rupali is my only Rakhi sister in my 22 years of career as an actor. I have known Sudhanshu (Pandey) from before. And I get along with him also very well. Rushad (Rana) and Jassi (Jasveer Kaur) are also a part of this show, and though I haven't shot with them, hoping to have some good scenes with them in the future, "

"Anupamaa" also features Paras Kalnawat, Aashish Mehrotra, Nidhi Shah, and Madalsa Sharma. Co-produced by Rajan and his mother Deepa Shahi under their banner Shahi Production Pvt Ltd, the show airs Monday to Saturday at 10 p.m. on Star Plus.
