“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck,” said Dalai Lama XIV.

Many would feel the same to be a hoax teaching just to make someone feel better after a loss. But ask the dashing Samridh Bawa, and he will tell you that the saying is completely true.

While a part of another show, the young gun received a call from Rajshri Productions for Swabhimaan (Colors). He sadly declined it and spent two months with the other project when it got scrapped. Casually messaging the creative of Rajshri on his free dates now, he luckily found that the team hasn’t yet finalised the cast. Post rounds of auditions and mock shoots, Samridh was on board.

“It was sheer luck that I managed to get the show even after refusing it. Swabhimaan, being my second show with Rajshri, is more special as people hardly get second chances. I am overjoyed to be a part of the family again,” quipped the actor who has earlier done Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali with the production house.  

With the daily featuring two leads, we wonder if he is sceptical of getting enough screen space to showcase his acting skills. “I am not an insecure actor as I believe in learning and performing. Yes, the show has two set of leads but my character is completely different from the other male protagonist. That’s what attracted me the most. He is a weird person with strange habits. There are lots of back stories and suspense about him which will get unravelled in time to come. Playing a character with such shades at this stage of my career is far more special than getting pompous about being the solo hero,” he smartly answered.

Samridh also believes that TV is indeed a women-oriented medium but men too are getting interesting roles to play. He opined, “Men add spice to the tale.”

Having started his career with Gumraah, the young man feels that he has evolved over the years. He shared, “I still laugh thinking about my first audition. I was too naive and felt that remembering dialogues were the only important criteria. I said my dialogues at one go and felt proud not realising that I looked a robot. Only after I moved to Mumbai and started auditioning and doing shows that I learnt the art and still feel that there is a lot more to do.”

And finally talking about Sooraj Barjatya, his producer, the actor said, “Although he is not available on sets but he takes care of every minute detail. From characterization to script to editing, he holds the reigns. It’s a proud moment to be chosen by him for his project and being under his guidance. He is a powerhouse of creativity and talent, and a great teacher for all of us.”
