Can you imagine yourself wearing loud make-up, heavy jewellery and a ghagra-choli when you are in your house, in public and also when you go off to sleep? Had we asked the fashion icon Sonam Kapoor about the same, she would have called it ‘tacky’. But some of our TV bahus have to bear the dress brunt every single day.
Toral Rasputra aka Anandi of Balika Vadhu fame (Colors) fits the above slot and when we caught up with her on the sets recently and chatted over a cup of coffee, we talked in length about the dress designing scenario in daily soaps.
“Know what, I too have to wear all heavy jewellery,” said the luscious lady. Shot back our Tellychakkar.com reporter: “So given a chance, how would you like to change it?”
This is when Toral racked her brains and embarked on a fashion spree.
So what does Anandi look like now? She wears a ghagra-choli, with a pallu (cloth) on her head all the time, mangtika, heavy earrings, necklace, bangles and mojadis.
What would she look like if Toral had the liberty to re-design her? “Given the Rajasthani backdrop, Anandi is good the way she is. But as I have the creative freedom here, I’d like to see her wear more of Anarkalis and saris. We could give her full sleeved blouses. If that’s not feasible, we could also give her a ghagra with a trendy kurti. Right now she has the pallu on her head all the time, so she can’t really work on her hair; but minus the pallu we can let her try different hair-dos like the French plait. We can also get rid of the mangtika, for I feel sindoor looks awesome on saris. I personally love wearing saris in real life.”
