Rumours were afloat from the time news of Imagine’s Do Hanson Ka Jodaa being pulled off air came in. The show is indeed wrapping up tonight.

While some blamed Shubhangi Atre, the lead actress of the show, the others blamed the low TRPs. According to sources closely associated with the show the whole cast and crew has been upset with Shubhangi. The actress had fallen off a train while filming a scene for the show and was advised complete bed rest. TellyChakkar decided to delve deeper into the facts and get a clearer picture of what had actually gone wrong with the show.

A source informs, “The crew is very upset with the whole thing and the announcement came as a shocker. The problem began when Shubhangi refused to co-operate with the crew members, refused to let the production house even shoot her close- ups. The production house was left with no choice thereafter.”

Kavita Barjatya of Rajshri Productions says, “It was an upsetting incident for all of us when we heard the show was going off air. Shubhangi had fallen off the train. The doctor had advised her rest and the production crew did accept her condition. We had no option then but to approach the channel to replace her. But they didn’t agree since they felt the show was anyways not faring well and replacing her would mean a further dip in ratings. So they decided to pull it off air. Though I don’t understand why they had to take this decision. Even during the IPL, the ratings were around 1.6. Every show has its ups and downs.”

But a source offers a different perspective, “There is absolutely no truth in the rumours. When the production house wanted to replace her the channel took advantage of the situation. They anyways wanted the show to go off air and they made Shubhangi the scapegoat. She was bed ridden but why would any actress want her show to go off air? The doctor had advised Shubhangi not to shoot but she still shot for three days after that. She had hurt her pelvic bone and the doctor had asked her to rest because they could not plaster the area, yet she agreed to give dates to the production house.”

Meanwhile, says Shubhangi, “We were shooting on a railway station on the outskirts of Mumbai. We had to empty the bogie and I was asked to jump off. The train had just begun to gather speed when I jumped off. I landed on the platform with full force and I felt excruciating pain. That day after pack-up I consulted my brother-in-law who is a doctor and he prescribed some pain killers. I returned to shoot the same scene for two days after that which the effect of the drug had begun to wear off and I was in deep pain. In fact my feet had begun shivering which I am told isn’t a good sign. I consulted a doctor who after seeing my X-Ray advised complete bed rest or else it could result in paralysis. It was then that I requested Kavitaji to give me some time off.

“I am improving but still cannot move much. In fact I am getting calls for work but cannot go for auditions as the doctor has asked me to rest for three months. Now all I am doing is to pray to God to make me well soon so that I get to do some good work.

“I come from a very small town. It is a dream for an actor to work with the Rajshris. They are so disciplined and organized. My biggest regret is the show is going off air. It’s sad as I know a good track was coming up. I know the TRPs were not that good but then that happens with so many shows. It is sad to know that even my co-actors and crew members are blaming me for the show going off air. Why would I want to jeopardize my own career?” she rues.
