World Suicide Prevention Day: Celebs say a little love, a lot of care, and more awareness, can help discourage such thoughts

MUMBAI: World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10.  An annual event, it is celebrated to create more awareness about the subject and also share measures that can be used to prevent it. With the number of suicide cases increasing every year, celebs feel more awareness about mental health, a shoulder to lean on and a lot of support can help avoid such situations.

Here's what they said:

Vijayendra Kumeria: I think what is required is that we become more sensitive towards people and be there for our loved ones. We need to address the issues when someone is feeling low and help them get out of it instead of asking them stop sulking. Trolling and backlashing on social media should also stop. As an individual one should also open up about their feelings and not suppress them. Instead of feeling miserable they should talk about it. There should definitely be more awareness about depression as even now people don't take this condition seriously.

Dhruvee Haldankar: It is very true that suicide takes lots of guts and the reasons can be different for different people. It can be shame, desperation, frustration, or sometimes lack of patience. However, what pushes people over the edge is the inability to see a solution for the problem at hand, and the inability to connect to your own bigger vision. A vision that includes you, and all those people who have nurtured and cared to make you what you are today. A happy and jolly environment is good but not good enough to avoid such situations, because it may give hope for the time being. They might feel okay for some time but the root cause of those ugly thoughts will creep back with the first available trigger. The most helpful thing would be to always keep the bigger vision of yourself in front of you. It may include your thoughts, dreams, your family members, or friends who love you unconditionally and your own image of the real you. It requires a lot of practice and is very tough to keep in mind when one is badly disturbed but in reality, you are your own 'Kastoori', which as a deer you are searching outside. All your answers will come from there. Your storms too will be handled from there. The person who is suicidal must remember 'picture abhi baaki hai mere dost'.

Aashish Mehrotra: The easiest thing to do today is to talk nicely to everyone, because you need to have courage to do something wrong, else anything and everything can be done in this world with love. All that a person, who is suffering from depression and anxiety, needs a shoulder or a person to talk to. It hardly takes 15 minutes or an hour to have a good conversation where he should be told that whatever he is thinking is wrong, or that he is just thinking from one perspective. One who feels that they are depressed or on the verge of depression, they should just find the right person with whom they can share everything and can discuss and talk it out because if it will stay inside you, it will kill you and ultimately you will take that step. I have seen their is a growth in people coming forward to help people struggling with such thoughts, so come out of your shell. Even if you are depressed, speak openly because there is nothing wrong in it. I have gone through depression and luckily I had people with whom I can talk to. They explained to me that sometime it takes time as you are expecting things to fall into the right place, but they don’t, because they have their own pattern and time. What you need to do is face it, fight it and believe in yourself. This will give you the motivation and power to do the right thing.

Savi Thakur: We should not say anything harsh to anyone, because even if it's not been said intentionally, it can still affect the other person badly. Suicide is definite not a sign if a weak person, you need a lot of guts for that. But I feel people more purpose and may be its taken away from them, that they take such drastic steps. I guess on a personal level we should be nice to everyone, we should also respect others and understand their situation.  We should put ourselves in other's shoes and understand the situation they are in.

Rahul Sharma: There are many reasons behind suicide, if I talk about industry it can be financial problem, heartbreak, family issues and a lot of other things which I have seen in my life. When you go through financial pressure and if you are smart enough then you can handle it, but when you face a couple of things together it is very difficult to cope up. I have gone through that phase. You are doing everything possible

but nothing works out for you, that feeling of falling down when there is nobody to support you is the worst feeling ever. You have your family, but you can’t share it with them because they will get stressed. But if you are going through it then please share with anyone be it your family or someone with whom you have a good relation. If you are unable to stop the thought then it will to suicidal thoughts. Share with family and friends who will not judge you, try thinking positive thoughts and don’t take much pressure of becoming famous. Its not a cowardly act because the person going through the trauma only knows the pain.

Rohit Choudhary: I believe that the society where we live in people use harsh words when they are frustrated, so we need to be careful before saying anything like that, because sometimes it might can hurt people. I believe that people who commit suicide don't do the right thing, because life is a gift by god and only he has the right to take it away from us. Life has it's ups and downs, but we have to face life as it is. We should smile and face all the struggles. I also faced many problems, even I thought of committing suicide but I thought of my children and I became strong. I live my life happily because it makes it easier to live. Be mentally strong and share your problems with your loved ones. Suppose if Sushant Singh Rajput had shared his thoughts with anyone then he would have been here today with us.

Urvashi Upadhyay Sharle: Suicidal thoughts come to everyone. But committing suicide is a big crime and it is written in Geeta also. I saw Sushant Singh Rajput's movie 'Chhichhore' recently, and I liked dialogue from the film which was that we give importance to everything in life, but somewhere we forget life itself. Now we are aware about suicide because the cases have increased. Earlier suicide cases were not like today, but because of our expectations the cases are increasing. We should explore everything in life to see how beautiful it is. Dying is not the solution, instead of dying we should prefer living. Life is the biggest brand which we should always admire. You should always have one driving force which will keep us motivated to live life.
