MUMBAI: Vasan Bala’s Monica O My Darling starring Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor premiered on Netflix on 11th November 2022. The film has been getting a great response, and everyone is praising the performance of all the actors.

What response are you getting for your performance in Monica O My Darling?

I didn’t check reviews, tweets, and DMs on the first day because I didn’t know what to expect and people can be mean. So, I was like I don’t want to see anything, we will figure it out. But, Netflix started sending us a bunch of reviews and that’s when I got the courage and I started checking my Twitter. I did not find one bad review about the film. People liked the film and appreciated all of us.

Rajkummar Rao is one of the most talented actors we have in the industry and he is also senior to you. Were you in a mindset that you have to up your game to match his performance level?

I think as an actor you cannot have such worries when you are going into a scene. The point of being a good actor is being in the moment, immersing yourself in the character, scene, and story. So, if you have such riff-raffs, insecurities, and thoughts in your head you will never be 100 percent there. But, of course, there was an excitement level that I am working with Raj and it will help me up my game. So, I knew it would enhance my performance and I guess it did. I am sure his sheer presence has added to my performance.  

In a scene, your character Nikki tells her cousin that if her boyfriend is cheating they will get him killed. Well, it’s a scary scene, but we would like to know what kind of girlfriend Akansha is in real life.

I definitely won’t kill my boyfriend if he is cheating on me. I am a very relaxed girlfriend that way, totally opposite of Nikki, non-clingy, and non-obsessive. But, I feel it’s okay to be Nikki once in a while to keep your man in check.
