#HappyBirthdayRusty: 5 Ruskin Bond books that can be turned into movies

Ruskin Bond

One of the finest Indo-Brit writers to ever pen a book, Ruskin Bond celebrates his 82 birthday today. The classy, witty, and absolutely hilarious writer has given us many memories that we will cherish for life. On his special day, we take a look at his epic work that can be turned into Bollywood classics.

The Room on the Roof: His award-winning novel is generally considered to be loosely based on the author’s life. Written when he was only a teen, the book explores the life of a sixteen-year-old who rents out a room and explores the various cultural shocks of the country. The coming-of-age saga will certainly make a splendid movie.

The Woman on Platform no 8: This touching tale of affection, love and care beyond the call of kinship will make a lasting impression on your minds. The simple story and setting is perfect for Bollywood as Hindi cinema is slowly exploring small town stories.

A Flight of Pigeons: Even though Shyam Benegal’s Junoon was based on this novel, it definitely can do with a reboot. The tale of Indo-British rebellion talks about the lives of foreigners who are left behind in India and how they struggle to stay alive. The gripping novel will make you realise that an eye for an eye is never the solution.

Maharani: It’s perhaps one of the lesser known novels of the great author. But it’s as quirky, funny, and typically Ruskin as his other works. With the author himself being one of the characters and narrating the tale of a Maharani, the movie adaption will certainly be apt for this generation. The feisty rani is perfect for Bollywood.

The Sensualist: The favourite children’s author tried out something racy and exciting for adults with this novel. Even though it attracted legal hassles, it was and is a beautiful tale of exploring human sensuality. Consdiering all the bold movies B-Town is churning out, this would only add to the fun.

Can't wait to see all these made into movies...Can you???
