Censor Board to only 'certify' films, not censor them

This new move is sure to make your film buffs happy as now the Censor Board will only certify films and not censor it, a leading news portal has reported.

According to sources close to Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry is said to be working on major changes in the Cinematography Act, which will be introduced in the Winter Session of Parliament, the site added further.

Following the furore over Udta Punjab's release, which sent the current committee into a string of controversies, the government has apparently expressed its desire to avoid further events by incorporating a better act, the site added.

According to sources close to the site, there will be two committees- one for reviewing and the other for monitoring. Furthermore, the films will be given certificates like U12+, U15+, A and A+ (for extreme violence and sex scenes).

Interestingly, there will also be a ‘tatkal’ category for urgent clearance, which will come at an extra cost, the site reported.

Moreover, smoking warnings that are present during each smoking scene will now be replaced with a single warning at the beginning of the movie, sources added to the daily.
