I want to do meaningful cinema: Pujarini Ghosh

Pujarini Ghosh

Did you know that Pujarini Ghosh, who won the Best Upcoming Actress Award for Srijon Bardhan's 'Postmaster', was initially rejected for being so fair?

Yes, you heard it right.

In a t?te-?-t?te with Tellychakkar.com, the Jadavpur University pass out shared her story, “The makers of 'Postmaster' wanted a dark girl for the role. Even after zeroing in on me they were not sure whether to take me or not. One moment they would assure me that I had been selected and at the very next moment they would be in a dilemma.”

She continued, “One day I really got pissed off. In an irritated tone I asked them either to take or dump me right away. Well, I was on board the next moment.”

And the interesting part is that the pretty lady ended the year 2015 by winning an award for this particular film. She quipped, “Winning the award was a big moment for me as I didn’t expect an award so early in my career. Winning any award at the beginning of your career gives you a boost.”

“The last year has been a fulfilling one for me. In 2015 I did Postmaster, which was featured at the Delhi International Film Festival, two of my other films Open Tee Bioscope and Chitra were released, and I did a French film, along with winning the award,” she smiled.

Do you think you wouldn’t have won if you had played a glamorous role in a song-dance-commercial film instead of playing a simple role of a maid in Postmaster? “To be very honest, I am at a tender age to understand the criteria required for winning an award. When I was offered the role I went ahead because I really liked it. There was no thought of winning an award when I signed up for the project.”

The Kolkata Calling fame actress has been in the industry for less than two years and has already bagged six films and an award. When we asked her to share her feelings, the lady expressed, “I feel I am lucky...may be my stars are supporting me. However, I feel my talent will be judged only when I will be able to reach more people. I want to do projects that will give me ample opportunity to showcase my acting prowess and also reach a wider section of audience.”

Do you have any resolutions for 2016? “I want to do more meaningful films. And I will learn to say NO,” she signed off.

 Good luck, young girl!
