Making Bhaag Milkha Bhaag tax-free will increase footfalls in theatres: Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar
The other day Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra along with Farhan Akhtar had an audience with the Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat in their bid to request the state government to waive off entertainment tax on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. “We are applying for a tax exemption for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag because we want it to reach to those for whom ticket prices are high and who wait for it to be shown on TV. So, they will also get to see it in the current atmosphere,” said Farhan. Exempting the film of tax will augment the footfall in theatres, the actor felt. Farhan plays the title role in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a biopic of legendary athlete Milkha Singh. The film, that released on 12 July has been critically acclaimed and is doing well at the box office. “A lot of schools, which want to show the film to the students, are also calling us. So, if the film is tax free for them, it will be beneficial. Besides, a percentage of the collection of the film also goes to Milkha Singh's foundation and it will also benefit," Farhan observed. The film also has Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta and Prakash Raj featuring in small but important roles.
