MUMBAI: Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, time and again, have been trolled for naming their sons Taimur and Jehangir. The power couple often gets slammed on social media by some section of users, who believe that they named their sons after tyrants. 

Now, in a recent interview, Kareena, who remains unaffected by trolls, has addressed the criticism around the names of her sons and asserted that she felt ‘terrible’ that her family and children were subjected to such trolls.

In a recent interview, Bebo explained, “Honestly, these are names that we just liked; it’s nothing else. They are beautiful names and they’re beautiful boys. It’s unfathomable why somebody would troll children. I feel terrible about it, but I have to just focus and get through it. I can’t be looking at my life through the trolls.”.

Saif and Kareena welcomed their first baby boy Taimur Ali Khan in 2016. Back then, the couple was criticised for naming their first son Taimur. Many trolls believed that Taimur's name was inspired by a Turkish conqueror, Timur, who invaded Delhi in 1398.

Four years later, when Jehangir was born, Saif and Kareena yet again were trolled for naming their second son after the 17th-century Mughal emperor - Jehangir.

On Thursday, Kareena’s sister-in-law Saba Ali Khan defended the couple saying that only parents have a right to the child’s upbringing and ‘name’. 

She shared a picture of Kareena and Jehangir from their recent trip to the Maldives and wrote, “When a mother carries her child within her and gives him or her life... only she and the father…are allowed to decide... who how and what the child will grow as...And the name. No one...no one else, including other family members, who may gladly suggest, have a say on anything!”.
