MUMBAI: Veteran actress Shabana Azmi met with an accident.

The accident took place on Saturday afternoon on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra's Raigad district.

Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar told the media, “The incident took place around 3.30 pm near Khalapur, over 60 km from Mumbai, when the car in which she was traveling rammed into a truck.” He added saying Shabana Azmi was rushed to MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai and was undergoing treatment.

The media reports further suggested that as per preliminary information, her husband and eminent lyricist Javed Akhtar was also travelling in the car. It is not immediately clear whether Akhtar was also injured, but another unidentified woman is reported to be seriously hurt.

Shabana Azmi is a notable personality and is known for her immense contribution in the field of cinema. She is known for films like Ankur, Godmother, Arth, among others.
