MUMBAI: On November 30, in Kochi, renowned veteran actress R Subbalakshmi died. Her age was eighty-seven. The cause of the death is still unknown. More information about her funeral is still pending. Fans quickly rushed to social media to share their warm memories of Subbalakshmi's well-known roles when word of her death spread. For those who don't know, she is the mother of Malayalam cinema actor Thara Kalyan.

The tragic death of R Subbalakshmi received considerable attention on social media on November 30. She gained fame for portraying grandmothers in multilingual movies. The late Kalyanakrishnan was the husband of Subbalakshmi. She is reportedly survived by a son and two daughters.

Actress Subbalakshmi was more than that. She was a painter as well as a Carnatic musician. Her well-known roles in Malayalam include those in 'Kalyanaraman,' 'Pandippada,' and 'Nandanam.' She acted in films in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Sanskrit in addition to Malayalam. She also acted in the English film 'In the Name of God.'

Her most recent roles were in Hindi's 'Dil Bechara' as Sushant Singh Rajput's grandma and Tamil's 'Beast,' starring Thalapathy Vijay. In South India, Subbalakshmi was also the first female composer for All India Radio. She appeared in over 65 television serials and worked as a dubbing artist as well.
