#GandhiJayanti Special: TV celebs talk about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Last year during the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, our Prime Minister took the initiative of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. A drive to keep our country clean became instantly popular among the masses.

One year down the line, we have witnessed many changes. Upon completion of a year, we spoke to our television celebs to know about their take on the issue. Browse through the story to know what they have to say.

Dishank Arora- This is a great idea indeed and it is heartwarming to see how everyone has have taken up the challenge to spread awareness of cleanliness. The best part of the movement is that everyone is aware about it, from elderly citizen to kids. And now it has also become a part of corporate social responsibility. On my part, I try to talk about the issue as much as I can and create awareness among masses.

Madhura Naik- Gandhiji always asked to be the change that you want to see in this world. And Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan just did that. Since last year every Indian was pushed to keep India clean. It has definitely brought in an awareness about keeping our Bharat as swachh as our own homes. Urban areas are now aware about the importance of cleanliness of our surroundings which has been only because of Swach Bharat Abhiyaan. And changes in rural India have also started with building toilets for women of the country.

Vijayendra Kumeria- Even before Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started, I have been practicing cleanliness and no littering anywhere since long time. I believe that it is the responsibility of every human being to keep our surroundings clean. But, of course I have seen a different attitude among people since last year. A lot of people are conscious nowadays, but still there is a long way to go I believe. In a book entitled ‘The story of my experiment with truth’ by Mahatma Gandhi it has been mentioned that even before being actively involved in freedom movement Gandhiji practiced such policies, and we should carry on with that legacy.

Vivana Singh- Like the way we keep our houses clean, the same way we should keep our country clean. I do my bit and I hope everybody else does that too. Since Swachhh Bharat Abhiyan has started I have seen dustbins installed at various places. But any change takes time to get properly implemented. I am pretty sure that this one will also happen with due course of time. We can for sure achieve green and clean India.

Manish Raisinghan- From childhood I have the habit of not loitering garbage. But the initiative taken by our Prime Minister is surely a thought provoking one. People have now become much more conscious. This is the biggest change I have witnessed. Still I believe we have a long way to go.

Daljeet Kaur- I always stop people whenever I see them throwing garbage around and ruining public property. One day I saw a girl throwing plastic glass on the sidewalk when the dustbin was just nearby. When I told her this, she started to answer back to me and told me to throw her used plastic glass if I care so much. Of course, I picked it up and threw it into the dustbin in front of her and the other people.

Sumit Bhardwaj- Well, I believe 'swachhta' begins at home. Since our Prime Minister has taken the wonderful initiative, I have started to keep my surroundings cleaner. I am doing my bit. Also I ask my mates on the sets to use dustbins and maintain cleanliness.

Alefia Kapadia- First of all this Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has brought about awareness amongst people. I feel that the drive has at least made that initiative of making some positive changes. Yes, actions also have stared in that direction and like they say, every drop makes the ocean, every act, no matter how small shall bring about a change.
