MUMBAI: The male lead of Hari Mirch Lal Mirch, Abhinandan Jindal belongs to Chandigarh, Punjab and some of his best work includes like Sasural Simar Ka, Thapki Pyar Ki, Jiji Maa, Diya or Baati Hum, Krishna Chali London, Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega and has also done commercials.

The role in this show is that he is a very innocent young man, a Mumma’s boy. He wants to do something in life but his family members don’t take him seriously except his mother. So, he has a deep desire that disturbs him about having to prove to all that he can do something. He is somebody who has never been liked by girls too because of his name, Chamku. So, he’s awkward amongst girls too. Basically, he wants people to take him seriously. He has never fought or has the guts to physically abuse or fight with anybody so he is not a typical Bollywood macho guy!

In an exclusive conversation with Abhinandan, he shared his experience shooting for the show. Take a look:

What made you say yes for this show?

Many reasons. Firstly, it was because it was that of the lead character. After having played various shades on television, I so wanted to play a lead in the TV industry. When I had got nominated for the best supporting actor in comic role for Krishna Chali London, I still remember my director in the awards function had told me that he wanted to see me in a lead comic role and hugged me tight. And getting the role of Chamku, it was altogether a different feeling which cannot be expressed in mere words. And obviously getting a chance to work with Jay Mehta production again was what I actually wished for after having a wonderful experience in Jijima which was again a comic role.

How did you prepare for the role?

Every character is a new character for me and for every character, my approach is very basic and that’s what I have been told to do from the institute where I learnt acting. Getting into the psychic of the character is what I want, that’s it. Once I get it, then I want myself to be thrown in any kind of situation. I will behave as per the situations wants to me as I have got the root of the character which is his psychic. Once I am on the sets, I rely on screenplays which I go through before sleeping and after waking up just to know the flow and the pace of the whole story and how the characters are behaving so that when I am on the sets, my director’s job is half done from my end. I strongly believe to do my homework with proper discipline. On the sets you have to shoot but what you are doing off camera also matters.

If there is one thing you would like to change about your character in the show, what would it be?

Nothing. It has been so beautifully designed by the channel Azaad and the producers that once this show ends, I won’t be able to get out of this character so soon. The channel and the producers have really worked really hard on our Chamku. Thanks to them for bringing me close to the innocence of Chamku which is rare to be found nowadays.

What was your first reaction when you were finalised for the show?

This is a gift from God. I still remember I could not speak for a while when I got this news and I was standing in front of my mom. I had been auditioned few times earlier, had waited for this call for quite a long time and there was a time also when I had stopped thinking about it as i did not get any call for one to two months. Thanks to the makers and the channel for having trust in me specially Kinnari Ma'am.

How do you’ll deal with creative differences on the set while shooting?

It’s very normal that actors and directors or creatives are never on the same page. But in being a smart actor, it’s your duty to maintain a balance and what is actually required. There are many good actors but your value is worth only when you can deliver to what the director or the creative wants you to do and that too on the spot. As an actor you have to be very flexible and spot on. Nobody wants to ruin the show. Everybody wants the show to look good and this thing has to be there at the back of the head of every actor so just be flexible with a positive thought until and unless it’s something that is really going out of the subject which is rare.
