On the evening of 22 November history was created, well sort of. The ongoing tussle between comic virtuosos Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma who have parted ways after the former left the latter’s show, came to a flashpoint. Kapil and Sunil were persuaded by public demand to come together at the end of the show. Says a source from Muscat, “Sunil and Kapil’s appearance together was completely unscheduled, unplanned and unrehearsed. As per the schedule, the two were supposed to perform separately .Considering the tension created between Kapil and Sunil after Sunil’s departure from Comedy Nights With Kapil on Colors both Sunil and Kapil had decided to perform separately. But then after their solo performances the audiences demanded that the two stand-up comedians come together.” Apparently Sunil declined the offer. It was Kapil who went backstage and convinced Sunil to join him on stage. Says the eyewitness from Muscat, “Kapil and Sunil were in earnest discussion for a good 20 minutes. Kapil suggested that they go on stage together. Sunil initially declined the offer saying there was too much controversy surrounding their collaboration, and he would rather not add to the speculation. But Kapil requested Sunil not to disappoint their fans. Sunil finally relented. The couple finally performed together unrehearsed for fifteen minutes. At the end of it, there was roaring applause.” So is this the beginning of a rapprochement? Would Sunil be back on Comedy Nights With Kapil? Says the source, “Kapil and Sunil did speak about it. But right now the chances of Sunil’s return are remote. He is in no mood to give in, not after the public notice put out by the producers of Comedy Nights With Kapil and the legal notice that they sent to Sunil a few days ago. Given the surcharged atmosphere Sunil is no mood to return to the show, though Kapil has extended the olive branch on the show’s behalf.” One thing is for sure. If Sunil returns to Kapil’s show it would be on his own terms. The fact that Sunil is on no mood to relent is corroborated by the fact that he performed as the legally disputed character Gutthi, in Muscat. Says the source from Muscat, “Sunil Grover entered the stage on a horse and did his popular Gutthi act. Audiences had come to see ‘Gutthi’ and Sunil wasn’t in the mood to disappoint.” When contacted Sunil Grover who had just landed in Mumbai from Muscat said, “Yes, Kapil and I did perform together. It was not planned that way. Kapil and I were supposed to perform separately only. But then the audiences wanted to see us together. I’ve repeatedly said I’ve no problem with Kapil. We are friends. We are very warm to one another.” When asked if he would return to the show, Sunil said, “I have no problems sharing the stage with Kapil. But I’ve my own plans. Now it’d be very difficult to go back.”
