Must Watch Tonight on Epic TV: Saurabh M Vanzara’s Lootere: Bandits of British India

Lootere: Bandits of British India

Saurabh M Vanzara has had oodles of experience being at the helm of things as the Creative Director of Sony Entertainment Television, with popular shows like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Heena, Saaya, Devi under his credit.

Now, with a vision to give the TV viewing audience some new concepts as a Producer, Vanzara is ready with his first show on the small screen. His company Soda Water Films is all set to launch its 15-part docu-drama series, Lootere: Bandits of British India on Epic TV starting tonight, 10 July at 9-10PM.

Lootere will have a periodic setting with stories from different eras of the 19th century and different regions of the country. Every episode will have a fresh narrative with a cast of 30-35 artists,  all having a sound acting background. The series will talk about the British rule in the 19th century, and about the desire of the Britishers to expand their base in India. And to achieve this, certain communities like the Thuggees, Pindharis, Bheels, Budhuks terrorized people across the nation. The best part about Lootere is that every episode has been shot outdoors, with a huge canvas used for dramatization. All episodes have been based on an extensive research from documents and books from the 19th century to the present.

When contacted, Saurabh M Vanzara, a senior media person, an alumnus of FTII, Pune, told Tellychakkar.com, “Soda Water Films as a company will venture into all kinds of genres and the basic idea is to explore new concepts. My favourite genre is ‘crime’, with me having been associated with more of the crime shows on TV. Also, we will like to explore the historical/periodic genre too. The trick is to push the envelope a bit further and create new boundaries. Lootere: Bandits of British India is in fact our first project as producers and we are really excited about it.”

In addition to producing the series, the show has also been conceived and directed by Saurabh M Vanzara, and co-written by Saurabh and his wife Surabhi M Vanzara (an actress, earlier known by the name Shabnam Sayed).

Senior actor Rajesh Tandon, who has been associated with TV and films for years and has featured in movies like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Company, Agneepath, has been roped in to play the crucial role of a British officer in the series.
