Sudhir and Seema Sharma’s Sunshine Productions has entertained one and all with some endearing concepts on TV.

Now the Producer duo along with acclaimed senior theatre artist Smita Bharati (Director) stand united to form a company by name Aganpakhee Social Arts which will indulge predominantly in theatre production to begin with.

The company’s first play Amavas Se Amaltas will have its premiere show on 27 November in Delhi. The idea is to take the play to all the premier cities in India and also go international to Canada and USA.

The play has Jayati Bhatia, Pammi Aunty fame Ssumier Pasricha, Chitrashi Rawat and Ankita Bhargava Patel as main characters. It will be a dark comedy and an entertaining play on the juvenile judiciary system. Acclaimed choreographer Sandiip Soparkar has choreographed for the play.

When we spoke to the talented Producer Sudhir Sharma, we realized that the man has drawn inspiration from his earlier days, wherein he used to be a theatre artist.

Sudhir Sharma told us, “In my earlier days, I have been a theatre artist, and have been associated with Ibrahim Alqazi’s theatre group, the man who was the founder of National School of Drama. When young, I aspired to open a high-end theatre production company, but did not have the means and funds to proceed with my passion. But now, we felt it is the right time to go ahead with it.”

Elaborating further on the motto and goals of the company, the Producer stated, “Our motto is not to make our plays too intellectual or serious. On the other hand, we will be following the path shown by film maker Rajkumar Hirani, in the sense that even a stiff issue like corruption can be tackled in an easy going manner. The basic idea is to create entertainment with relevance. Our company Aganpakhee Socia Arts will deal with the socially relevant subjects in a rather easier way. We want to touch upon the difficult and stiff issues in an entertaining manner and make it palatable to the common audiences. We are not here to change the world. We want to make people understand it.”

In addition to producing plays, Aganpakhee Social Arts will dwell into documentary making. “We are already working on various documentaries on Discovery and BBC London. Our step into theatre production is the first step towards many other ventures.”

Sunshine Productions which has been in the helm for 18 years now has given the audience entertaining shows like Paanch, It’s Complicated, The Buddy Project, Miley Jab Hum Tum, 12/24 Karol Bagh, Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha (Season 1 and 2), and the recent AdhaFull.

“While we will continue to produce TV shows under the banner Sunshine Productions, we will branch out the socially relevant work in the form of our plays and programs on BBC to our new company. This will see to it that we have no shift of focus when working on any project.”

Sunshine Productions will soon start work on bringing back the much acclaimed AdhaFull yet again, with a Season 2 on Doordarshan.

As of now, here’s wishing Sudhir and Seema all the very best for their plays…
