MUMBAI: Not many know but besides making his fans fall in love with his on screen characters, actor Suraj Kakkar is also an entrepreneur now. The actor, who has been part of shows such as Sanyukt, Kavach... Kaali Shaktiyon Se and Lajwanti, comes from a business family and has started a small business himself too. The actor’s family business deals with books and he has started an eCommerce platform for the same. “I started it a few months back when I was in Gurgaon, my home, during the lockdown. I have created this online bookstore which has more than 5 lakh books in every single genre be it medical books, books on banking, college study material, schools course books, fiction and non-fiction books. It’s still in process and we have not officially launched it as yet. But the end of this year, we will complete it and launch it in January. The name is bookmaharaj.com,” he says.

He adds, “My family has been in this field for more than 25 years. We sell books wholesale and retail, both in bulk to distributors. Orders go throughout the country. My brothers were so busy and they never had time to bring this thing online. Now everything is totally online. When I stayed at home, I thought why not shift this business online. After that, you just need a computer and you can manage it. This is what my goal is.”

Suraj has always been fond of reading. “I love books but my point of view is different. I read books to look at them and see how good they are and how they can attract people. I love books. My showroom in Gurgaon has more than 10 lakh books. I have always stayed in an environment where there is so much paperwork and education. I love reading books. Khalil Gibran is what I love the most. I got a book called the Power Of Now,” he says.

Ask him to recommend a book to everyone, and he says, “My favourite book is Women. This male-female relationship is so true in not just humans but animals also. Knowing about the other gender and understanding the whole evolution from start to end about women is amazing.”
