The biggest drawback is the refusal of the Indian mind to accept the paranormal concept - Sameer Soni

Sameer Soni
Sameer Soni will soon be back to television with the supernatural thriller on Life OK titled Khauff. Talking about his return to the small screen and on his character, Sameer said, “The show will start sometime in October (2013). The launch date and slot are yet to be announced by the channel. I will play the character of the paranormal researcher as naturally as possible. I try to think how a person who is in touch with ghosts and spirits would actually behave. My character also has a lot of personal baggage, so that will also add-on to the character’s behaviour.” Talking about the belief that ghosts usually wear white on screen, Sameer with a smile stated, “Why don’t you ask a ghost or a creative for the matter of fact? I guess if the ghost wears black, he/she will not be seen in the dark, as most of the horror stuff gets filmed in darkness. I also personally believe that not all ghosts must be horror-looking, some have to be beautiful as well.” Talking about quality of Indian TV horror content, the actor went on to say, “We have gone a long way if you take into consideration the huge limitations we work under. The biggest drawback is the refusal of the Indian mind to accept the paranormal concept; we seem to be still stuck with ‘bhoot pret’. ” “Also one other major obstacle is the logistics part. We don’t have seasonal shows yet, so the writers don’t get enough time to spin a good chilly tale. Add to this the constant demand to deliver episodes makes it tougher. The director does not have creative freedom to take time to cut an episode with ease. Obviously if you shoot an episode in ten days it will come out much better than any output which will be produced in a day.” Point well explained, Sameer!!!
