Amarr Upadhyay, the actor who came into the limelight as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’s very first Mihir Virani feels that television has not changed in the past many years, and that the same scripts are being churned out every second day in different shows. Here is Amarr in conversation with Tellychakkar.com,"Television needs a change, and that can happen only when the experimental shows get accepted well by the viewers. The channels and production houses are trying to do things differently, but I feel that audience needs to change. They are mainly responsible for the different shows not working. They are happy and satisfied with the same old stuff, and I guess they need to come out of this now. Take the example of the different show on Colors, Chhal –Sheh Aur Maat. But today the ratings have dropped and all the efforts of the producers to give something new have failed. The story line which we saw years back, in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Mehendi Tere Naam Ki etc are being shown today too, it’s just that the sets have changed and actors have changed." He goes on,"The experiment with newcomers is not working, and I am sorry to say that. Take a look at the history of the film industry, whenever a new actor is being launched, he gets the support of a good experienced supporting cast. And I think this trend has to be seen in television too. Every channel needs to have a right balance of newcomers and experienced actors. I think the channels too should place a lot of trust in their experimental shows, and give it at least six months or a year before taking them off air. See the case of Imagine channel, where was the need to shut it off? They could have given their shows a bit of time, as they were doing a decent job." Amarr Upadhyay feels that it is the channel that has the say in everything."In today’s time, producers just execute the plans of the channel. For me, Ekta Kapoor is ‘The’ true producer who has had a say in her shows. However, there are a lot of people who are satisfied with this format. There are many newcomers who are getting a lot of work; there are quite a lot of experienced actors who are getting their share of work too." As for Amarr, he is busy these days with his new construction company."I have been setting up my construction business over the past few months, and that keeps me away from television. The company is registered under the name of Gayathri Hetal Construction Company, and we have started a residential project at Nagpur. Another one in Mumbai will be underway in the next two-three months. I am in talks for few movies too. And when it comes to television, I was to be part of an experimental show, with a promising role. Let’s see what comes my way,"he concludes.
