MUMBAI: Ankur Tewari, the creative force driving Coke Studio Bharat, brings a unique perspective to the music landscape by curating authentic stories of India through diverse musical expressions. Despite not being the face of the compositions, Tewari's role as the curator serves as the backbone of the show, aligning various elements to present a rich and genuine musical portrayal.

With Coke Studio Bharat, Tewari endeavors to narrate the honest story of India musically. Collaborating with musicians, artists, and lyricists, he designs the entire palette and shapes the narrative of each season. Tewari emphasizes the dedication of the current season to Gen-Z, acknowledging India as the youngest country statistically.

At 46, Tewari demonstrates a keen understanding of the musical preferences of young listeners. He engages with them formally through interviews, connecting with the younger generation from different parts of India. Tewari acknowledges the urgency of addressing topics that matter to Gen-Z, such as anxiety, the environment, toxic love, and adulting. He emphasizes the importance of older generations listening to the youth, recognizing that the world belongs to the young, and others are merely living on rent in their world.

Reflecting on the diverse linguistic landscape of India, Tewari notes the power of music to transcend language barriers. He shares examples from previous editions of Coke Studio Bharat where songs in languages unfamiliar to many became popular, breaking down cultural walls. Tewari believes in the unifying nature of music and its ability to resonate with people, irrespective of language differences.

Tewari's ability to seamlessly navigate diverse musical genres is evident in his work on projects like The Archies. While acknowledging that not every effort is successful, he emphasizes the importance of creating music that brings joy and touches hearts, steering away from an obsession with numbers.

The upcoming edition of Coke Studio Bharat boasts a lineup including Shreya Ghoshal, Diljit Dosanjh, Cyli Khare, Raf Saperra, MC Square, Neha Kakkar, and Kamla Devi, promising a musical journey that transcends boundaries.
