MUMBAI: ALTBalaji and ZEE5, have over the years, given viewers a host of characters that have gone on to strike the right chord with them. With the third season of Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai being just a few weeks away, one can’t stop thinking about Poonam and how her character has evolved over the seasons. Played by Gurdip Punjj, who delivers one of her finest performances on screen, this is a character that viewers simply can’t get enough. She’s a devoted wife, mother, and a daughter-in-law. When it comes to maintaining relationships, you can’t ask for a better person than Poonam. Having gone through major life-changing moments, audiences have witnessed Poonam's graph from being dependent on her husband to becoming the independent, matured and strong-willed woman that she is today. And if you don’t believe us, here are five reasons why.

She’s a doting mother and wife: When it comes to caring about those closest to her, Poonam’s relationship with her children and partners is one to marvel at. She is the hands-on mother whose top-most priority is her daughters and also takes care of her mother-in-law. She is the one who will never compromise on anything when it comes to the security of her daughters and their well-being. She’ll be a loving wife who’ll be a pillar of strength to him and will try every possible way to bring him back in her life to keep her family happy. 

A woman of substance: Poonam is a woman of power and a positive influence who did not let the issues in her life break her down. One of the biggest examples of this quality in her is seen when Poonam, in spite of knowing her husband's affair, deals with the situation of Ananya and Rohit with utmost maturity and dignity.

She’s the independent modern-day woman - In a true sense, she is the woman of today's 21st century, who does not sit and cry after a divorce. She maturely deals with it and goes on to live her life with dignity and pride. Poonam is the one who gave her daughters the best of what she could and did not ignore them, even after getting married for the second time. In true sense, she showed that divorce can be a healing process and your life does not necessarily end after it, especially if you are a woman. 

A woman who respects other women - Poonam is always shown to be the one who struggles with the circumstances in her relationships. But that does not break her respect for Ananya who is the other woman in Rohit's life. She never badmouths her and instead treats Ananya thoughtfully. So much so that she accepts Ananya’s place in her life and goes on to bond with her over tea, becoming good friends in the process. 

Always listens to her heart – Post her divorce to Rohit, love does happen to knock on her door again to add happiness in her life. After much heartbreak, she finally settles down and starts a new life with Abhimanyu. She was after all able to do this by listening to her heart and following it.
