Illegal – Justice, Out of Order review: Neha Sharma surprises in this courtroom thriller

Voot Originals is back with something different to offer. Read on for the review of Illegal – Justice, Out of Order, starring Neha Sharma

MUMBAI: Voot Originals stands apart when it comes to content-driven stories, suspense elements, and thrill factor. Earlier, we have seen and loved Arshad Warsi’s Asur. Then, we saw Rajeev Khadenwal’s Marzi and The Raikar Case. This time, the platform is back with another thriller titled Illegal: Justice, Out of Order, which is directed by Sahir Raza and produced by Sameer Khan. It features Neha Sharma, Piyush Sharma, Satyadeep Mishra, Akash Oberoi, Deepka Tijori, and a few others.

Voot originals – Illegal

No of episodes – 10

Rating – 3.5 stars

As the title suggests, it’s a courtroom drama. It comprises 10 episodes, each about 30 to 35 minutes long. The series has a lot more to offer than what it showed us in the trailer.

Niharika Singh (Neha Sharma) is a lawyer by profession and works for a law firm owned by Janardhan Jaitley (Piyush Sharma), a highly decorated criminal lawyer who has many admirers, including politicians and Niharika herself.

Niharika loves to wear high heels just to look taller than her problems. She finally gets an opportunity to work with Janrdhan. And there, she meets Akshay Jaitley, whom she has a deep past connection with.

Now, Niharika has two cases in hand. One is of Meher Salaam (Kubbra Sait), who is in jail, completing her punishment for a severe crime, and the other is of Neeraj (Ankit Gupta), who has been blamed for the rape of a woman named Vartika (Aditi Tailang).

Both cases are not as simple as they seem to be. Niharika sees this, but the so called 'mad lawyer', as she is referred to, does not back down.

Are Neeraj and bMeher guilty? What connection does Niharika have with Mr. Shekhawat (Deepak Tijori)? How is all this relevant to the case? These are the questions that the series answers.

The highlight of the series is the groping screenplay, which does not let you wait for the next episode. With every episode having some twists and turns, you'll want to binge-watch this one.

The dialogues deserve a special mention, as the courtroom discussions used the appropriate legal language that is written well and in a way that the normal audiences will understand.

Talking about the performances, Bollywood actress Neha Sharma, whom we have loved in movies like Kya Super Kool Hain Hum, and Jayantabhai Ki Love Story, is seen in the strong character of a lawyer and does a good job of it. However, Piyush Sharma as the criminal lawyer takes the cake. He is simply brilliant in the series.

Akshay Oberoi, Satyadeep Mishra, Kubbra Sait, Ankit Gupta, and Aditi Tailang deliver decent performances, and it is good to see Deepak Tijori on screen after a long time. He also does justice to his character.

Overall, Illegal has all the elements that make a thriller exciting for the audience. Watch it only on Voot from 12th May 2020.

Team TellyChakkar goes with 3.5 stars for Illegal: Justice, Out of Order.
