ShemarooMe and US Consulate come together to bind audiences in times of social distancing

MUMBAI: ShemarooMe US and the Consulate General of India, New York, USA have partnered to keep the Indian diaspora socially distant while remaining virtually connected through a common bond that connects every Indian, Bollywood. In line with the campaign #SociallyDistantVirtuallyConnected, ShemarooMe is providing 2 weeks free subscription of their OTT platform to ensure viewers are entertained amidst the times of social distancing and self-quarantine. The Consulate General along with Shemaroo also hosted a virtual watching of the film GOLMAAL on the 28th March, 12 pm EST on the Consulate General’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/IndiaInNewYork  to get the Indian community virtually connected at this time of the pandemic.

The US Consulate, Sandeep Chakravorty and Shemaroo hosted the comedy classic GOLMAAL, starring Amol Palekar, Bindiya Goswami, the veteran actor Utpal Dutt and the ever-green Dina Pathak portraying the characters of Ramprasad, Urmila, Bhawani Shankar and Mr. Shrivastav who tries to decode the mystery of Amol Palekar’s double role and how the story unfolds keeping the humor, confusion and laughter intact throughout the movie. This initiative has been rolled out in a time when the world is practicing social distancing and trying to break the chain to curb and stop the spread of the virus. Amidst these tough times when the world has shown signs of coming together in ways more than one, Shemaroo has brought people together by connecting them virtually to connect the Indian diaspora in the US to stay connected over their mutual love for Bollywood.

Announcing the virtual gathering the US Consulate, Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty said, “There are some hard times ahead, but one thing is for sure that we have to stay connected and become each other’s support. While we are following all the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus and practice social distancing, it’s a noble thought to be connected virtually. Shemaroo through its OTT platform ShemarooMe has given us this great opportunity to connect and strengthen this bond through a 2 week free subscription of the app and airing of GOLMAAL on the 28th March 12pm, to ensure we stay connected virtually during the tough times ahead.”
