MUMBAI: ‘The Freelancer’ starring Mohit Raina, Kashmira Pardeshi and Anupam Kher is about an extraction mission where a girl is held captive in the war-torn hostile environment of Syria, and her escape from the world of death.

It also stars Sushant Singh, John Kokken, Gauri Balaji and Navneet Malik, Manjiri Faddnis, Sarah Jane Dias amongst others.

The series is based on the book – ‘A Ticket to Syria’ by Shirish Thorat. It is directed by Bhav Dhulia, produced by Friday Storytellers and Neeraj Pandey is the creator and showrunner. The book attempts to share the story about the insidious operations of the Islamic State, and how the terror group has perfected a cross-country operation that converts thousands to a depraved cause.

While season 1 of the series was left on a cliff-hanger, now, the series is coming back with the second season, The Freelancer – The Conclusion. The series is going to show how Avinash will finally go for an extraction mission and save Aleeya from danger.

Now, in an exclusive conversation with the media, Anupam Kher was asked about his performance in the 2nd season of The Freelancer, something special in the second season of the series and much more.

You are a stalwart and the performance he gives must be easy so how did he navigate through the evolving dynamics of this particular role and the upcoming episodes.

To this, Anupam Kher replied by saying that he puts all his expectations and responsibilities on Neeraj who makes his job easy. He added that acting is never an easy job as actors have to give their best in every performance but if we feel that it’s easy then it’s just the actor’s hard work and efforts. Talking about being called a veteran and stalwart, Anupam Kher said that he has become more careful after people have started to refer to him as a veteran and stalwart and that he will not stop performing till he is 90 years old.

This year we saw a lot of movies which were filled with violence, it was full of action and thriller, be it Pathaan, Jawan, Tiger 3 or Animal. As the entertainment platforms are a good medium to send a good message to the audience, is so much action and thriller good?

To this, with a humorous tone in his voice, Anupam Kher said that according to his contract with Hotstar, he is not allowed to talk about any other movie or series but only The Freelancer. He added that everyone in the cast has put in a lot of hard work, it’s not fair to talk about some other topic. Talking about his experience working in The Freelancer, Anupam Kher said that he loved it and worked a lot for it. He also shared that in the year 2023 he gave many performances but his wife never praised him for it but she asked for Neeraj Pandey’s number to send him a message that she loved the series. Anupam Kher thanked Neeraj for casting him in the series.

The first season kept the audience hooked and it is surely going to be interesting how Avinash will save Aleeya. Do you have something special to share about this second season?

To this, Anupam Kher said that a speciality of Neeraj’s writing is that you get to see exactly what’s written, there is no editing to it. There is a minimalistic approach to it. In today’s time, being different from others is by working hard and that’s what we will get to see in the series.
