Aamir Khan denies allegations of pressurizing members to sell their flats for his bungalow dreams

Aamir Khan
Yesterday, reports of actor Aamir Khan allegedly pressurizing members of Virgo cooperative housing society at Pali Hill to sell their flats started doing the rounds in media. Reports suggested that Aamir who is hunting for land to construct a spacious bungalow for himself, made an offer to buy out flats of the members who were willing to sell their property so that he could build his 20,000 sq ft bungalow on part of the land. Objections to Aamir’s plans were raised by senior citizen Dr. Pamela de Sa and her daughter Dr Geneve de Sa both of whom reside in Virgo Co-operative Housing Society. This society has 23 members, and comprises two ground-plus-three-storey buildings, Marina Apartments and Bella Vista, each of which has 12 flats. Aamir owns two flats in Marina and one in Bella Vista, while Pamela de Sa owns two flats in Marina, and Geneve de Sa owns two garages in Bella Vista. The de Sas in fact, lodged a complaint with the deputy registrar of co-operative societies last week alleging that the society managing committee has been pushing Aamir’s proposal, which according to them is a “falsely conceived redevelopment scheme”. Strongly refuting all the allegations levelled against him, Aamir through his publicist Spice issued a detailed statement. “We would like to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan denies all allegations regarding him putting any pressure on his society to go in for redevelopment. The fact of the matter is that Mr. Khan left the building more than a year ago, after an incident of a slab of concrete falling on the head of one of the members, resulting in the member being hospitalized. Thereafter, over the months, in his absence, the society had several meetings and discussions, regarding redevelopment. The general body eventually passed a resolution with 80% majority members voting in favour of redevelopment. Thereafter, society made a request in writing to Mr. Khan to make an offer. Mr. Khan gave the matter due thought and made an offer. In his offer letter, he also suggested to the society to invite other offers to ensure best value for the society and its members. Mr. Khan strongly denies any allegations of pressure tactics or misconduct on his part, and takes strong exception to attempts being made to defame him.” Well, knowing the kind of noble causes Aamir espouses, we believe the actor will surely not want to pressurize anyone into selling their homes for his dream house.
