MUMBAI : Ayushmann Khurrana gave seven back-to-back hits like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, Article 15, Dream Girl, and Bala. All these films were released before the pandemic, but now post the pandemic; the actor has given us four back-to-back flops like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek, Doctor G, and now, the recently released An Action Hero as well.

An Action Hero, which received a mixed response from the critics, collected Rs. 5.99 crores in three days which is quite disappointing. TellyChakkar interacted with producer and film business expert, Girish Johar, and spoke to him about what’s going wrong with Ayushmann’s movies. 

An Action Hero is Ayushmann’s fourth flop; where do you think he is going wrong?

Firstly, let me tell you that he is a greatly talented actor, and he is very versatile. The point is that whatever films that are coming now were probably greenlit before the pandemic, and they were stuck. What has happened is that the films got stuck but the audiences changed; they are now exploring content from the South as well as worldwide. But, I am sure going ahead he will again be ahead of the curve and he will be doing content that probably the audience will want to watch. Even though right now he is not performing well at the box office, he will just need one Friday to get him back to the top of the game, and I am sure that will happen soon.

Do you think An Action Hero was not promoted well?

Honestly, not just An Action Hero, but also Doctor G, they were not aggressively promoted. I don’t know if the makers were not confident about it, but yes, I agree that both films were not promoted in an overdrive way. 

Can we expect Ayushmann Khurrana to be back with a bang with Dream Girl 2?

100 percent! I hope that the storytelling and the craft that they are coming up with post the pandemic keep the creative preferences of audiences in mind. It’s a winning combo.

Dream Girl 2, which also stars Ananya Panday in the lead role, is slated to release in July next year.
