Birthday Special: Top 5 Roles Of Kamal Haasan

One of the stalwarts of Tamil cinema, Kamal Haasan, turns 60 today. The superstar, who has had a successful stint in Bollywood as well, will be having an intimate celebration with his friends and family. We take a look at five of his top roles. Read on... Ek Duje Ke Liye: He debuted in Bollywood with this Romeo-Juliet adaptation, which became a cult hit. Playing a Tamilian in love with a Punjabi, Haasan was at his talented best in this cross-cultural drama. It's no wonder that people still remember him for his stunning performance in this 1981 classic. Saagar: While the movie was touted as Dimple Kapadia's comeback venture with Rishi Kapoor, it was Haasan who walked away with all the accolades. He played the silent lover, caught between his affections and Dimple's love for the suave Kapoor. He definitely made us feel his anguish and pain, didn't he? Sadma: This movie showcased his talents in all its glory. Paired opposite the equally talented Sridevi, Haasan's 'Shomu' character won hearts of millions of people. The movie became a hit and he walked away with all the praises from the critics. Devar Magan: In this Tamil superhit, Haasan played the role of a foreign-return, who strives to change pitiable conditions of his village. The movie won many awards and accolades for his acting and dialogue delivery. It was remade into Viraasat in Hindi with Anil Kapoor reprising Haasan's role. Appu Raja: It's well known in film circles that Kamal can go to any lengths to prepare for his movies. He did just that for the role of a midget in this 1990 hit. The Tamil original was a massive hit too and it reinvented Kamal into a super star. We wish the star a very happy birthday. And hope that he continues to entertain us with good movies for years to come!
