Ismail Darbar back after a sabbatical; to weave music for Gurudakshina

Ismail Darbar
Ismail Darbar, who regaled us with his melodious tunes in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas was on a sabbatical for quite some time, his last film being the 2012 released Sindbad. The esteemed music director, who once played violin for Jatin-Lalit in the Khamoshi: The Musical, is back again with Gurudakshina, a musical extravaganza. Says director Kiran Phadnis, "Having soulful and good music for our film was crucial for more than one reason - these days much before the release of the film, it’s the music that garners attention and creates the required hype and in our case the music for Gurudakshina is not just an element but a significant part of the film and we could think of none other than Ismailji as he is a genius in musicals be it Devdas or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.” The film is about how a Gururji brings up a young orphan boy at his ashram and recognizes and understands his passion for dance, art and talent in him. The film, that is very dramatic in nature and has an emotional background, has several moods and pathos in its music, equally complimented by the lyrics of Nida Fazli. The movie stars Rajeev Pillai, Rajesh Shringapore, Girish Karnad, Roopa Ganguly and Sulagna Panigre.
