MUMBAI:   One of the most awaited movies of the next year is the Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Varisu aka Thalapathy 66, which is being directed by Vamshi Paidipally. It is set to begin 2023 with a bang with an auspicious Pongal release on 12th January 2023. However, competition arises for its box office sales, as another blockbuster film that has been anticipated is the Ajith starrer Thunivu, which has decided to join the Pongal bandwagon and has been confirmed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies, which has bagged the distribution rights of the H Vinoth directorial, produced by Boney Kapoor.

Reports reveal that the Ajith starrer Thunivu is supposed to be a bank heist crime thriller, based on the infamous Punjab bank robbery case. The movie also stars Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani and John Kokken in key supporting roles. While the Pongal weekend has been announced as the official release date by the makers, it's not yet confirmed whether it will clash on the same day that Varisu releases on 12th January 2023.

While speaking to a media portal, Director Vamshi Paidipally revealed that though Varisu is a proper family entertainer, it's so much more because when making a film for such a huge star like Thalapathy Vijay, he couldn't limit it to merely one genre. He added that it's going to be a blend of genres and will be for everybody; from little 6-year-old kids to grandparents, all will love it. Dropping another hint, the filmmakers further added that Rashmika Mandanna is going to have a meaty role, since he didn't want to cast a heroine just for the sake of it.
