Roohi review: This horror comedy fails to impress

Much-awaited horror comedy Roohi finally hits the big screens, and here is the full review.

MUMBAI: The very first big entertainer of the year post the unlock has finally arrived in theatres. Horror comedy Roohi, which is directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner Maddock Films, has released. The film stars Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, and Varun Sharma. Ever since the trailer of the movie was out, the audience was looking forward to it, as it promised an entertainment ride.

The movie tells the story of a ghost who abducts brides on their honeymoons and focuses on how this ghost is connected to Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor). Because of this, the difficulties that Bhawra (Rajkumar Rao) and Kattanni (Varun Sharma) have to face are then shown.

The screenplay of the movie is decent. It starts off well, but as it nears the intermission, it dips. This continues, and there is no turning back. The graph spirals downward.

Talking about the performances, Rajkumar Rao is the highlight of the movie. The actor nails his performance as Bhawra Pandey. His comic timing and dialogue delivery are the USPs. On the other hand Varun Sharma impresses with his comic timing. Janhvi Kapoor's effort is also evident.

The positive aspect is solely the performances of the leading cast. They never fail to impress you with their on-screen presence, especially Rajkumar and Varun. The concept of the movie is good on paper but lacks execution.

The negative aspects are the poor execution of the concept. Moreover, the genre is horror comedy, but we hardly see these elements. The few comedy scenes look forceful, and the screenplay and writing are strictly average. The movie drags on, and you lose interest midway.

Well, having said that, Roohi is a horror comedy that serves average entertainment in pieces but can be seen for Rajkumar, Varun, and Janhvi’s performances.

Team TellyChakkar goes for 2/5 stars for Roohi.
