Mahesh Bhatt doesn't want to be called 'master'

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says he doesn't want to be called a 'master' because he feels that someone's outlook should not be confined to a limited world.

Known for films like Saraansh, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Zakhm and Arth, Bhatt has explored a range of movies and is known for creating films with bold plots.

In a master class with director Hansal Mehta on Tata Sky Acting Adda, Bhatt shared his unfiltered opinion on filmmaking.

"I don't want to be in a position where someone calls me a master. Not out of some bogus humility, but because I don't want people to confine their outlook, their creative ideas to a limited world. Whatever I experienced was true to my life, it might not be of important to another person since there is no compass, no map to learn filmmaking.

"Every film is a separate project, a different river that you need to learn to navigate afresh. Even a director who has previously created a film of critical/commercial acclaim might not receive the same laurels for his next movie," he said in a statement.

Farhan Akhtar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to reunite for US, Canada tour

Filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar is looking forward to perform with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy in the US and Canada next month.

Farhan on Friday took to his Instagram account and shared a picture with the popular Indian music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, announcing their reunion ahead of the tour.

In the photograph, they are seen at an airport lounge.

Along with the photo, the Rock On!! actor wrote, "Bumpity bumped into my favourites Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy at Delhi airport, many airport moments await us gentlemen, US and Canada tour coming up. Happy reunion."

From movies Don 2, Karthik Calling Karthik, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag to live concerts, the collaborative work of Farhan and the trio has been widely appreciated.

Prakash Jha to direct biopic on mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, known for his socio-political dramas, will direct a biopic on the life of Indian mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh, whom he considers the "nation's treasure".

Excited to be a part of the film, the Gangaajal director said in a statement, "Dr. Vashishtha Narayan Singh, the brilliant mathematician from Bihar is our national treasure. His life is so inspiring, I would love to direct a biopic on him."

The film is being produced by Vinay Sinha and his daughter Priti Sinha.

Vinay said, "I have been reading about and tracking the life of Vashishtha Narayan Singh since many years. His is a story of tremendous highs and lows and now we are all set to produce a film on him. I couldn't be happier."

Priti told the media in Patna that the main motive behind the biopic on Singh is to inform people about a great mathematician and his work and life.

She said Singh has been suffering from schizophrenia for decades and is not keeping well.

"But we want to tell a real story of a genius," she said, adding that the team is working on the film's cast and the names of the actors will be announced soon.

Jha will take a call regarding the film's shooting.

Singh is currently staying in Patna along with his younger brother. According to records available, Singh was born in a village in Bhojpur district of Bihar in 1942. After graduating from Patna Science College, Singh was awarded a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, US, in 1969.

Dhulia said that he wanted to work in Zero because he wanted to gain firsthand experience of making a film with special effects.

"So, there was not any better opportunity for me, where I can do fun and gain some education and money," he said.

Asked Dhulia what was his experience of working with SRK in Zero like, he said, "I got to learn a lot from Shah Rukh. Despite being such a big and successful actor, he is so modest and humble. Police nab prime suspect in Kerala girl's trolling case

The Kerala Police on Saturday took into custody a person alleged to have been the key tormentor of a 19-year-old Kerala student, who was trolled on the social media for selling fish after college hours.

Noorudeen Sheikh is being questioned and a First Information Report has been registered against him, a police officer said. He has been booked under various sections of the IT Act, besides provisions attracting non-bailable offences.

Hanan Hamid, a final year graduate student of Chemistry studying in a college near here had attracted attention after it came to light that she was eking out a livelihood by selling fish and also doing odd jobs as a junior artiste in films.

All Hamid was trying to take care of an ailing mother, who has been separated from her husband.

It was Sheikh who had first taken selfies with Hamid when he came to know of her struggles. Later, however, he went hammer and tongs against her and posted the pictures questioning her condition, after she was also seen in a few pictures with superstar Mohanlal.

Soon Sheikh's post went viral and Hamid was slammed as "a fake and doing all she did only to impress superstar Mohanlal to land a role with his son Pranav Mohanlal in an upcoming film.

Speaking to the media, after hearing his arrest, Hamid said she is very happy to hear the news.

"Now I have realised that with the support I am getting from the government and my college, I have now got so many guardians," said Hamid.

The police, keeping track of the social media posts, have said more people who have abused the college girl would also face consequences.

It was after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's Facebook post supporting Hamid on Friday that the police registered a case against the cyber bullies.

On Saturday, Vijayan speaking to reporters said, "The thump rule for those on the social media is to be careful with their statements."

The Left has also come out in support of Hamid as also the women's commission.

Shooting in five languages was tough, says 'Rashtraputra' maker

Writer-director-actor Aazaad of the upcoming film Rashtraputra, based on the life story of freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad, says it has been shot in five languages, which was quite difficult for all the actors.

The film has been shot in Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu.

On the shooting experience of the film, Aazaad said, "It was quite a task for all the actors to shoot the film in five languages, especially in Sanskrit because that is one language that we do not speak in daily life. We do not get to hear that language. So the actors had to work to get the pronunciation right. So that was quite challenging."

Since the film is releasing in 26 languages, Aazaad said, "The idea is to reach out to the maximum people with the story of the freedom fighter that people do not know much about."

As the film is produced by Bombay Talkies, which is coming back to business after a gap of almost six decades, Aazaad said he is very fortunate to be a part of it.

"I feel lucky to be a part of this crucial journey of Bombay Talkies because back then, iconic actors like Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Madhubala worked here. In fact, the current management felt happy that I chose the story of Chandra Shekhar Azad.

"In 1940, Bombay Talkies made a film on Chandra Shekhar Azad titled Azad, in which Ashok Kumar played the lead role. Since the freedom movement was going on and the British government got offended by the narrative of the film, the makers had to change the story to get a release. So with this film, hopefully, the production house will fulfil their incomplete dream."

Rashtraputra will release on September 14.

Kareena Kapoor Khan to travel to small towns as UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador

Kareena Kapoor Khan broke stereotypes and proudly flaunted her baby bump as an expecting mother. She also shared her inputs on motherhood as part of nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar's book Pregnancy Notes: Before, During and After.

As UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador, the star will now travel to small towns to spread awareness about good health and nutrition among expecting mothers and children.

Says a source, "Recent statistics have shown that majority of women in the interiors do not know the basic dos and don'ts during and post pregnancy. Lack of knowledge on the subject has also had fatalistic consequences for both the baby and the mother. Kareena will travel to small towns in the interiors of India to talk about the safety measures that mothers should take in the first six months post pregnancy. She will also speak about proper nutrition and healthy diets they should follow".

When contacted, said Kareena, "It is possible to keep more babies alive and healthy. The government is doing everything it can to ensure adequate service delivery. However, it’s not only about the administration doing its bit but also about civil society taking relevant and collective action".

Nora Fatehi’s #InMyFeelings / KIKI challenge has the most hilarious desi twist!

The world is going nuts over the #Inmyfeelings challenge, a trend that started with Drake’s latest hit In My Feelings, with Hollywood celebrities doing their own versions of it. And it seems that Bollywood has also caught on to the Kiki fever!

Nora Fatehi, who is riding high on the success of her latest stint in the recreated version of Sushmita Sen’s 1999 hit, Dilbar for Milap Zaveri’sSatyameva Jayate starring John Abraham, has now done the #Inmyfeelings challenge with none other than Varun Sharma aka Choocha from Fukreyfranchise. But their video has a rather desi twist to it, with Nora wearing a sari and Varun imitating a lover being all cheesy willing to take his love for a rickshaw ride.

Rishi Kapoor lashes out at Anurag Basu

Rishi Kapoor has still not been able to digest the epic failure of Ranbir Kapoor’s Bombay Velvet. Of course, it was a bad film and RK Jr couldn’t have done anything to save its debacle but as a father, Rishi had all the reasons to get mad at its makers. In a recent chat with an online media, he blamed Anurag Basu for not utilising the films’ budget correctly and also targeted Basu for Jagga Jasoos. “It was such a bad film, such a bad story. It was absolutely rubbish. I questioned Ranbir and he said, “Papa, the man who gave me Barfi, how could I question his… I thought he’d be responsible enough to know to keep the story at its point.”

Sanju to beat Tiger Zinda Hai and PK

Ranbir Kapoor‘s Sanju is showing no signs of slowing down. As if earning Rs 300 crore and more wasn’t enough, it is constantly eyeing to leave the big movies behind. It has already become the biggest hit of 2018. As of now, the film has earned Rs 337.28 crore. By this weekend, the film will manage to beat not only Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 339.16 crore) but Aamir Khan’s P.K. (Rs 340.8 crore) as well. That means by the end of these three days, it will also become Rajkumar Hirani’s biggest hit ever! Who would have thought a Ranbir Kapoor film will be enough to beat Aamir Khan’s P.K. which was the first film to enter the Rs 300 crore club!
