MUMBAI: Karan Johar admits that he had told Aditya Chopra to not cast Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Karan and Anushka have collaborated for Bombay Velvet and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. While the former was a box-office failure, ADHM received a mixed response. Much before Karan joined hands with Anushka, the filmmaker and producer didn't want his friend and director Aditya Chopra to cast the actress in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

During the promotions of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan had said that he was shocked to know Aditya wanted to cast Anushka in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan. 

He said, "I tried really hard. I told Aditya Chopra not to cast her. He showed me pics of Anushka Sharma and all and I was like 'Are you mad? What are you thinking? During Rab Ne also... she was sitting as a Dulhan and that was her first shot and my mother was feeling bad.. she came and told me 'This poor girl seems lost'. And I was thinking 'Oh god, I will have to be nice to her and poor thing she doesn't know there is no career left after this'."

After he watched the film, Karan felt she was good in the movie. However, when he saw Anushka in Band Baaja Baarat, Karan thought that the actress was just amazing.
