Vishal now plans to adapt Shakespeare's comedy plays

Vishal Bhardwaj
Filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj, who has adapted three of the most popular tragedies by William Shakespeare into films, is now planning to turn three of his comedy plays into films. "I think you can adapt any William Shakespeare play into a film. I want to do 'King Lear', 'As You Like It'. But I mainly want to do his comedies and I might do a trilogy of his three comedy plays," the 49-year-old said. Bharadwaj was speaking at the launch of his books based on his three Shakespeare adaptations - "Maqbool", "Omkara" and "Haider." While "Maqbool" was an adaptation of "Macbeth", "Omkara" was inspired by "Othello". His latest offering "Haider", which stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, and is coming out Thursday, is based on "Hamlet". Bhardwaj did not reveal the names of the plays he plans to pick up. His mentor Gulzar's 1982 cult comedy "Angoor" was also based on one of Shakespeare's plays - "The Comedy of Errors". (Source: IANS)
