When asked if he can predict a project's success while being filmed for an interview on the YouTube channel, Vishal replied, “Haan while making a film, you get to know. But one or two times I was wrong, when I thought the film won’t but it worked. This was the case with Kaminey. While making the film, I was feeling like how will we do this. There was so much conflict between Director of Photography (DOP) and the cast, between DOP and the production and between production designer and the production. It was chaos of some another level. Every day after reaching the set for an hour and a half, I had to see what is the new problem of this day.”

Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Amole Gupte starred as the main characters in Vishal Bhardwaj's film Kaminey, which he also wrote and directed. The movie focuses on the competition between identical brothers, one of whom lisps and the other of whom stutters, over the course of a single day, set against the backdrop of the Mumbai underworld. The film was well-liked by critics and successful at the box office.

Khufiya, the most recent movie directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and available on Netflix, featured Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi in the key characters. Escape to Nowhere, an espionage book by Amar Bhushan, served as the inspiration for the movie.
