'Hariyali Teej' Ki Shubhkamnaye

MUMBAI: Observed during the monsoons, Hariyali Teej is primarily celebrated by married women in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Jharkhand and Rajasthan for the well-being and prosperity of their husbands. Since the festival falls during monsoon, it is also called Shravana Teej or Choti Teej. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in the name of their holy union. Gracy Singh (Santoshi Maa) and Tanvi Dogra (Swati) from &TV's Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein convey Hariyali Teej Ki Shubhkamnaye to all married women.

Speaking about the manyata (significance) of Hariyali Teej, Gracy Singh, who plays Santoshi Maa in &TV's Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein says, "Hariyali Teej is one of the most pious forms of prayers that a woman offers for her husband. Women offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati signified as the embodiment of love. Hariyali Teej has its essence cemented in the Legend of Hartalika. Hartalika is a story about Parvati's sheer loyalty and perseverance towards her love for Lord Shiva which earned them a lifetime of togetherness in the form of their marriage. Women perform the Hartalika Puja and narrate the Legend of Hartalika while in the puja. It is one of the purest forms of prayers one can offer in the name of love. This Hariyali Teej, I wish every woman a blissful married life, lots of love and Maa Parvati's blessings!"

Speaking about the vidhi (process) of Hariyali Teej, Tanvi Dogra who plays Swati, an ardent bhakt of Santoshi Maa in &TV's Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein says, "Hariyali Teej is a special occasion for married women across India, especially in states such as U.P, M.P, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Every year on this occasion, women religiously wake up at the break of dawn and offer their prayers to Shiv-Parvati. They pray to the Gods for the longevity of their husband's life, his health and good fortune. Along with their prayers, women also offer Bel Patra (holy leaves), fruits and flowers to Maa Parvati. They keep a fast the entire day and break it in the evening with simple vegetarian food. Some women also visit their parents and receive sweets, henna and beautiful bangles as blessings from the parents.
