Did you anticipate such a fantastic response for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai?
I think no one anticipated it; the only thing is that we worked hard enough and after that it all depends on God. We worked hard on the film for one and a half years, and we have made it with honesty and pure heart. Now, people are liking it so we are very happy But, I didn’t anticipate this.
Manoj Bajpayee in an interview with us revealed that he came to you with the story of the film after watching the aspirants. So, did you immediately say yes to direct the film or were you a bit hesitant before taking it as this might have attracted controversies?
Manoj sir came to me with the story, and when he told me about it, I immediately said yes. The subject that we are talking about on minors, it was very important. All these things were a part of the public domain and when that girl didn’t lose hope then how can we? I also believe in this issue, so I was not at all hesitant. In fact, when Manoj sir told me about it, I immediately said yes because it had Manoj sir in it. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that Manoj sir calls you and tells you that please do this story.
Manoj Bajpayee’s monologue in the climax has become the talk of the town. So, how was the experience of shooting that?
It was a fantastic experience. In fact, we worked on it for three months; first on the writing level, we worked on it a lot and even changed it a lot of times because the true essence of this film was in the monologue. After two months, when we cracked the monologue, Manoj sir started preparing for it. Every day we used to sit and prepare for it. So, he prepared for that monologue a lot. I had requested Manoj sir that even if the flow breaks slightly we will take it from the top, we won’t shoot it in cuts because this is a very important part and it is important to keep in a flow. So, Manoj sir said that he will agree with my request, and I think what has come out is pretty amazing and everyone is liking it. It is all Manoj sir’s hard work.
