MUMBAI: The last time two heavyweights of Indian cinema, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, faced off at the box office was in 2005, when their films, Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi, were released at the same time.
There were a lot of rumors earlier in the year that Rajinikanth's Jailer and Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 may fight on November 10. When Jailer opened in theaters on August 10, these suspicions were shot down, and it was made clear that Indian 2 would actually be released in 2024. However, fans of both actors have exciting news to look forward to on December 8, theaters in Southern states and globally are preparing for the re-release of their well-known hits, Aalavandhan and Muthu.
Under the direction of Suresh Krissna, the movie Aalavandhan did not do well at the box office but received positive reviews for Haasan's outstanding performance. Its impending re-release is expected to enthrall viewers in over a thousand venues worldwide. However, the Kollywood movie Muthu, which was directed by KS Ravi Kumar, continues to retain a special place in the hearts of Rajini fans.
Fans of both actors were thrilled to see the two legends filming at the same studio for their respective upcoming projects, Indian 2 and Thalaivar 170, in a unique and thrilling event that was filmed last week.
In a tweet, the producing company Lyca Productions stated, "The 2 unparalleled LEGENDS of Indian Cinema 'Ulaganayagan' @ikamalhaasan & 'Superstar' @rajinikanth sharing a lighter moment while shooting for their respective films Indian-2 & Thalaivar170 in the same studio after 21 years! And we @LycaProductions are super happy & proud to be producing both the films!"
Haasan has Indian 2, directed by S. Shankar, scheduled for release, but he also has Mani Ratnam's KH234 and Kalki 2898 AD on his hands. In the meantime, Rajini has Thalaivar 170 by TJ Gnanavel, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, and Fahadh Faasil.
