MUMBAI : Vijayakanth, a well-known politician and actor, has returned home following his recent health problems. He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment after struggling with health concerns for a while.

His health had previously been a concern, as reports indicated that he may have a severe illness. On December 11, 2023, the 71-year-old actor went back home after fully recovering. Many of his fans and friends were much relieved when his party, the DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam), formally confirmed his discharge in a statement.

According to the official X (formally Twitter) statement, “Announcement of Head Corporation. We are happy to inform everyone that National Progressive Dravida Kazhagam President Capt. Vijayakanth is fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital this morning (11.12.2023) and has returned home.”

On November 18th, Vijayakanth was first brought to the hospital with a sore throat, cold, and cough. His condition somewhat deteriorated during treatment, and he needed short-term pulmonary support.

His wife Premalatha advised people not to trust any false reports during this time, assuring them that he was recuperating nicely. She also made public pictures of a robust-appearing Vijayakanth to attest to his improvement. The film and political worlds, as well as Vijayakanth's family and fans, are relieved that he is fully recovered.

Before entering into politics, Vijayakanth had established a renowned acting career. He acted in numerous popular films, including Tamizh Selvan, Thyagam, and Honest Raj. He is regarded as one of Kollywood's top actors.

He decided to create his political party, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), in September 2005. In 2006, he ran for the Legislative Assembly and was elected to one seat. After collaborating with the AIADMK, his party secured the majority in the 2011 elections. Vijayakanth went on to lead the opposition for the following five years as a result.
