Acting is my first and true love whereas writing is a fun affair that I am enjoying: Hussain Dalal

Hussain Dalal
Acting is not an easy job and writing is primarily more difficult. But Hussain Dalal is one extremely talented guy for he is a pro in both the arts. Having started his career as a theatre actor, the young guy went on to write dialogues for Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani that even fetched him a Guild’s Award. The actor will soon be seen on MTV as part of Anurag Basu’s Real FM the first film on MTV Films. Talking to Tellychakkar.com, Hussain shares a bit about his life and aspirations. Read on… Tell us about your journey in the industry? Well, for long I have been part of theatre as an actor but writing was never on the cards. I would say that writing was a happy accident for me. Ayan (Mukherjee) wanted me to write few scenes for him but gradually I went on to write the entire dialogues of the film. Though Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani was my first film, it worked well. What more can I ask for? You also won the Guild Award for the film. How was the feeling? It was actually quite bizarre. I had never thought that I will ever win an award. I mean as a human being I feel awards are quite a big thing although winning it was an ecstatic feeling. And the best part was that the film had such simple dialogues and the genre was also romantic. Earlier I used to feel that only hard-hitting dialogues got attention from people (smiles). How difficult is it to write? Organically I feel of having a verbal diarrhea, hence words come naturally to me. I have never had to struggle as far as writing is concerned although acting still continues to be my first love. And coming back to acting, your portrayal of Kejriwal in the Youtube video has become quite a rage? Well, I am really happy but the sad part is that after the video went viral, I started getting calls from news channels and event organizers to come to their shows dressed up as Kejriwal. It’s ridiculous and annoying and I was actually scared seeing people go so crazy about the whole thing. So any plans to stay attached with the team of TVF Qtiyapa for more such videos? I have done a few videos for them and hopefully I will do a few more. It is a fabulous team and I have a great equation with all of them. Tell us more about Anurag Basu’s Real FM for MTV Films in which you will be seen acting… It’s one of the projects that is really close to my hearts. Some very wonderful people have come together to bring out a heart-melting story which I am sure viewers are going to enjoy a lot. Earlier I have worked in plays with Aakarsh (director of the film) and he is a dear friend. We really had a great time making this film. This being a film for television, what are your views on TV shows? No offence, but I feel that all actors on TV have a default expression of a bahu (laughs). I like challenges and a new story is always kicking. I feel cinema excites me but short films on TV surely are a wonderful concept, which I am sure also has a great future. And what are your future projects? I am doing few plays and also have a couple of films lined up. I have written the dialogues for 2 States, Happy Ending and Roy which will release this year. I am also in talks with films as an actor; let’s see how things shape up! Honestly speaking what do you enjoy more; acting or writing? I love both equally. While acting is my first and true love, writing is a fun affair that I am enjoying (winks). Although these days writing keeps me more occupied, I am trying to take time out for acting. And thankfully both help me understand each other well. The more I act, the more I’m inspired to write differently and vice versa. Real FM will be aired tomorrow (23 March) on MTV.
