Darshan Jariwala returns to TV with four 'daughters'

Noted actor Darshan Jariwala is back on television after six years. He plays Sevantilal Shastri, the head of a family in Hats Off's Star Plus show Behnein. “Producer JD Majethia is the reason why I am back on TV,” he says, adding, “We have a long standing relationship from the time we did theatre. When they conceived the show, JD remembered me for this role.” Apparently, it was JD’s insistence that led to Jariwala agreeing to do the show. “I was touched by the faith he had in me. So here I am as Sevantilal Shastri,” he beams.

Jariwala has acted in many Hindi films like Guru, Life Partner, What’s Your Rashee, and the recent Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. “Working in films has made me a lazy man. In a film, you hardly give one or two shots in a day. But in a serial, you are working long hours and that too for extended shifts,” he says. “I was initially worried when I took up Behnein. But a creative person always looks forward to challenges,” he says. He was last seen in Sony’s Ayushman. “Things have a changed a lot in the television industry, since I last worked in Ayushman. I had earlier thought that television will give films a run for their money. Television is successful today, but in a very different way. There is more scope for this medium but I feel the reality shows are taking up all the slots. Sadly, the viewers are also watching them more.” Behnein, he says, he is happy to be associated with. He would like to see and work in more shows like this. "Though the title suggests that this show is going to be girl dominated, but there is emphasis on my character too. Being a father of four girls, on screen of course, I have a big role to play. It is about a loving father and his daughters; how he loves all of them equally and never lets them face any difficulties in life by providing them a sheltered upbringing.”
