I've only worked with Vinay, but haven't married him: Ranvir Shourie

Ranvir Shourie has come a long way since being a VJ on Channel V. In fact, this VJ-turned-actor is one of the very few artists from the tv industry who's made his mark on the big screen. The actor makes a return to television teaming up with best pal Vinay Pathak on a new show called Ranvir, Vinay aur kaun? - a interview based sitcom. Ranvir speaks on RVK and more in a brief chat with Mayur Lookhar. How does RVK differ from other chat shows?
Ranvir Shourie has come a long way since being a VJ on Channel V. In fact, this VJ-turned-actor is one of the very few artists from the tv industry who's made his mark on the big screen. The actor makes a return to television teaming up with best pal Vinay Pathak on a new show called Ranvir, Vinay aur kaun? - a interview based sitcom. Ranvir speaks on RVK and more in a brief chat with Mayur Lookhar. How does RVK differ from other chat shows? I consider RVK as an experiment. It will not be like Koffee with Karan. Here, you'll get to know that little extra about a celebrity. Our interviews are very informal. The basic concept of RVK is maximum entertainment in least time. Though yet to be aired, cynics are drawing similarities between RVK and UK's Kumars at 42. What's you line of defence? It's completely unfair to compare these shows. The concept of a fun-filled interview isn't an exclusive one. Every show has its own energy. However, I'll say that RVK has qualities of House Arrest. So, will you be inviting only celebrities from Bollywood? No. We intent to invite people (achievers) from all walks of life. I'm sure they too would love to have gracious hosts such as us. What's so special about your chemistry with Vinay Pathak? There isn't anything special. This chemistry comes only when you've worked with someone over a period of time. Vinay and I have been working together for almost a decade. However, I want to clarify that I've only worked with Vinay, but haven't married him Is your show all about celebrity interviews? Our show isn't all about the guest. We'll have our funny gags too. All actors of Comedy ha ha are very much a part of our show. They'll get equal footage. Speaking of guests, do you think one might get a bit agitated with the informal ways you treat them? Well, it depends on how the other person reacts to our antics. It's a fun show and expect us to be a little informal but never at the cost of humiliating our guest. Has any guest ever felt uncomfortable? By far, all people we've invited have enjoyed our company. Most of them are our friends and that does help. Apart from RVK, what else is keeping you busy? Well, I have several films lined up this year. Prominent among them are Yash Raj's Aaja Nachle, where I fall in love with Madhuri Dixit's character. She truly is both a fabulous person and an actor. Apart from that, I'll be playing a serious role in Navneet Sahni's Teesri Manzil, which is an out and out thriller. My character has grey shades to it. Also, there is Saurabh Shukla's I'm 24, where I'm playing the parallel lead to Rajat Kapoor. One film I'm really looking forward to is Rajat Kapoor's Mithia, where I play the character of a struggling actor. What about your soon to be released film Buddha Mil Gaya? Well, I play a cameo in it. Here I got the opportunity to befriend Rakhee Sawant. She's a bundle of energy. I've danced with her in the film. The likes of VInay and you are often part of a low-budget films. Will we ever see you in a typical Bollywood masala? Well, if it's done for any good cause, then I wouldn't mind being a part of it. You are a multi-talented actor, then why did it take Bollywood so long to tap your potential? I haven't given a thought to it. It's just that when you have your opportunities, you have to make the most of it. After all, I'm merely happy that I'm getting work. Vinay has moved into production, do you have such aspirations? I want to direct films, but at the moment, I just don't have the time for it. What's more difficult, acting or VJing ? Both of them have their own challenges. But as an actor, you always get to do something new. However, I was lucky enough to do diverse work for Channel V. Finally, how do you rate yourself? I've never indulged into self-appeasement measures. I'm not just an actor but more of a student of cinema. Awards have never appealed to me. That people get joy watching my performance is what I cherish the most..
