&TV’s Santoshi Maa: Simple yet powerful

What happens when devotion surpasses all limits? Is it possible to find a matchless devotee in today’s material-driven society?

&TV’s socio-mythology drama Santoshi Maa is the story of Goddess Santoshi and her ideal devotee.

This show by Rashmi Sharma Productions marks the return of popular actress Gracy Singh in the titular role, and the very talented Ratan Rajput as her devotee.

The daily is faithful to the original classic goddesses, who were simple and beautiful. By watching the first episode of the series we can surely say that it has the power to mesmerize viewers of all ages.

The soap started with the introduction of a loving girl, who is a worshipper of the divine goddesses. With no complaints or regrets, the girl has faith in Santoshi and believes she is her sole saviour in life.

What did we like:

A show always starts with a narration that introduces a hero and heroine, but this one had a unique and impressive initiative. Every character including the goddesses had a striking introduction. The characterization of each artist was also bang on. The creation of Santoshi Maa, was something that is unknown to many but it was beautifully portrayed in the daily. The swarglok sets looks fascinating and real and seems like the makers are leaving no stones unturned to keep the viewers mesmerized.

What we didn’t like

The show will appeal to the rural class of India because of the authentic culture displayed. But the city audience might not be able to connect to the divine factor. Also even though the show is based on Goddess Santoshi, she was hardly seen in the first episode.

Our verdict

Santoshi Maa may look simple from the exterior, but it has a mysterious appeal to it. Not only does it provide an articulation for contemporary social desire and darshan, but it represents a lot of issues for Indian women and religion also. So, it’s a must watch from our side.
