Ashiesh Roy of Jeannie Aur Juju to play a double role in a play

Ashiesh Roy
Television actor Ashiesh Roy who plays the endearing Bengali babu Chatur Ganguly in SAB TV’s Jeannie Aur Juju (Eagle Films Pvt Ltd) is ready to essay a double role in his friend Paritosh Painter’s upcoming play See No Evil which launches in Mumbai next week. Ashiesh, who has been a theatre artiste in Mumbai for the past 15 years, took a three-year leave from the stage to do television dailies instead. He has returned to theatre, which he confesses, is and shall always remain his primary love. “Theatre is an irresistible bug,” smiles the actor. “Once bitten, you’re hooked for life.” Speaking about his new play, Ashiesh states, “See No Evil...is a laugh-a-thon – the audience are going to get exhausted laughing.” According to him, it’s a hilarious play – a David Dhawan-meets-Agatha Christie kind of rib-tickling mystery, “where two unsuspecting tourists in Goa get embroiled in a murder, a misunderstanding, a mad manager, a mysterious man, and two sexy sisters.” Talking about his double role in the play, Ashiesh states, “A double role is every actor’s dream – one has to alter one’s walk, speech, voice and appearance for each character – that’s the challenge.” The actor accepted this role heartedly. “The two characters that I play are a stern Punjabi corporate head honcho and a gay Bengali cop. I play each character right-handed and left-handed.” After the immensely successful portrayal of Chatur Ganguly in Jeannie Aur Juju, he is playing a Bengali character all over again. “It was Paritosh’s idea to cash in on my television character’s popularity for his play. To enact a gay character was Ninad Kamat’s suggestion – the result is hysterical.” See No Evil which also has Barkha Bisht, Delnaaz Iraani, Kishwer Merchantt, Nasir Qazi, Paritosh Painter, Balwinder Singh Suri and Jayesh Thakkar in the cast premiers on14 July 2013, at Rang Sharda Auditorium, Bandra in Mumbai.
