Vishal Gupta, who presently holds the profile of the Casting Director with the popular production house, 4 Lions Films is on ‘cloud nine’ after completing his first big Hollywood assignment. The Spanish movie titled ‘Traces of Sandalwood’ produced by Barcelona’s Pontas Films has Nandita Das and her husband in real life, Subodh Maskara playing key roles. The movie have been majorly shot in Mumbai and in Barcelona. The portions to be shot in Mumbai have been shot and presently, the crew is busy shooting its schedule in Barcelona. Vishal who was earlier associated with BBC Worldwide Productions and Rose Movies as Casting Director was in charge of the Mumbai parts of casting for the film. He successfully cast the small kid Vaibhavi Hankare, who closely resembles Nandita Das to play the younger version of Nandita in the film. After a hunt of more than two months, he zeroed in on Vaibhavi for the esteemed role. Also, Vishal has cast known faces of television, Harsh Rajput (seen in Channel [V]’s Crazy Stupid Ishq) and veteran actress Neha Baam (presently seen in Maharana Pratap on Sony TV). Harsh will play the younger version of Subodh Maskara, who has a teenage love relationship with the maid in the house. About his experience casting for the Spanish movie, Vishal Gupta told Tellychakkar.com, “I had a great time working with the unit, 80 % of casting for the movie was done with the help of Skype conferencing, as the crew was situated in Spain. In television here, we usually deal with mails and CDs to send in auditions and receive confirmations. But this is a different experience altogether. They are thorough professionals and it was fun working with them. This is a Spanish movie for which the 20 days schedule in Mumbai has been recently shot. The movie is being shot in Barcelona now. It is my second film after London Paris New York. I have been working on Traces of Sandalwood for quite some time now, and the entire cast got final in December last year. In addition to the known Indian faces, I have also cast for few other Indian characters to be seen in the movie.” The best part about the movie Traces of Sandalwood is that it has an all-women crew. Dance Guru Saroj Khan has also choreographed a particular song picturized on Nandita in the movie. Says Harsh Rajput, “It was a nice experience shooting for the movie. My friend Vishal Gupta cast me to play the younger version of Subodh. I actually play a 17 years old boy in the movie. I got selected after giving few auditions over Skype.” Neha Baam also said, “It was wonderful to be part of this all-women crew movie. We shot in Mumbai for it. I play the cook working in the house of the younger version of Nandita.” We wish the entire team of the movie all the very best!!!
