MUMBAI : The legacy of the late Bondita and Anirudh Roy Chowdhary from one of the most loved television shows ‘Barrister Babu’ lives on through their daughters in COLORS’ ‘Durga Aur Charu’. While Charu is her mother’s soul, Durga is her shadow. The show outlines the journey of the two sisters, who are bound by blood but are starkly different owing to their diametrically opposite upbringing after being separated as children.

The channel has roped in popular actors Aurra Bhatnagar and Vaishnavi Prajapati to play the lead roles as two sisters - Durga and Charu, respectively.

Sudeep Sarangi plays the role of Baake in the show Durga Aur Charu. He is the one who raises Charu after she gets separated in the accident.

He made his acting debut as the antagonist in the 2003 Tamil movie Kaadhal Kondein.  Following the popularity of the movie, Sudeep played similar parts in Ennavo Pudichirukku (2004) and Kadhale Jayam (2005). However, he eventually found employment in a business organization after his father fell ill and his brother's company struggled. Later, he received offers to play characters in the Hindi television series Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo, Mahadev, and Prithviraj Chauhan. He played a fleeting part in Sahara One's Haunted Nights.

TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about following the legacy of Barrister Babu, his expectations, and his experience with shooting the show.

Barrister Babu had set a level of benchmark, and fans have a connection to the show, what is your gut feeling and excitement going into the show?

My gut feeling is very strong and very positive when I entered the show, because I had seen Barrister Babu and it was not a long time back. The show was loved by everyone and by every class. The masses, the classes and even the kids loved it, because the show had so much potential in regards with the writing and the craft. The skills and the performances were outstanding, so this is sequel and the name is changed to Durga Aur Charu. But, it is connected to the first show, and what happens after the car accident that killed Bondita and babu, and in this spiritual connection is continued because the girls are twins and they are connected. If one gets hurt, the other feels it and the reason this show works is because it's real and has that real connection. My gut feeling is that this show will connect with the audiences.

What are your expectations with this show going forward, what are you hopeful for?

Every character that I play, every show that I do, my expectations are that it should excel, it should be in all popularity charts, people should love the show, and more than the show, they should love the characters. They should love each and every part of the show, be it technical or creative. This is my thinking. This is a team work and if the show is loved by people, then we will reap the benefits of it. Actors are definitely a main part but I believe that if writing of the show is good, then half the battle is won, and my wish is for the show to be as loved and appreciated as Barrister Babu.

Anything that you would like to say to the fans about this new journey?

I believe my fans are my target audience. They are my well wishers and have been very kind. I have this appeal and humble request that they watch the show from the beginning, keep watching and spread a lot of love and I can assure them that this show will not let them down. The show has a lot of exciting twists and turns and it is set in an era that is portrayed beautifully.

Sudeep plays the role of Baake on the show Durga Aur Charu that airs on Colors.
