I really hope Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai clicks - Sumeet Raghavan

Sumeet Raghavan
The ever charismatic and intelligent Sumeet Raghavan is back at what he is best known for. Starting on 9 June he will be seen as the central character in India’s first ever alien comedy TV series, Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai created by Hats Off Productions for SAB TV. When Tellychakkar.com caught up with him cheerfully flowed into the conversation. The first thing that one notices on seeing this alien family is their dresses. All of them are dressed in the same color or pattern. When we asked about it, Sumeet said in a matter-of-fact tone, “Since we are aliens and new to this world we don’t know any places. So we wear the same dress, so that even if one gets lost we can find the person easily. This is our trademark just like the soldiers’ outfit or IPL teams’ outfit.” So is the show about aliens and their powers? Sumeet answered, “Hmmm not exactly….the show Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai in a nutshell is about an alien family that crash landed on Earth and immediately they took into human form. But each of us have unique powers. I can run fast, my wife can stretch like elastic; my younger brother has the telepathic ability to talk with others. My younger son has X ray vision and he can project a screen and find out who is coming and who is bringing trouble. My elder son”, Sumeet said with a dramatic sigh, “he is a badmaash. We try to blend in and avoid troubles, but he creates a mess everywhere and makes it difficult for us.” Does that mean we would never get to see your original form? “Slowly when the aliens lose their powers you will get to see their original form. Trust me you don’t want to see the original form,” Sumeet added laughingly. Aliens have always been stereotypical in movies. “I know,” said the affable actor, “But ET and Jaadu (Koi Mil Gaya) have been portrayed as helpless. And to me all these super beings Superman, Spiderman or even Krissh are also aliens and they help the needy and the poor. Our show is different because we are attempting comedy here.” After the wrap up of Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo, Sumeet was on a sabbatical, seen occasionally in reality shows and films. When asked about it Sumeet quickly replied, “I have been getting a lot of offers especially to do comedy. What happened was for some projects I was confused whether I should do it or not and for some I blatantly said no. But then a phase came when I thought I should commit to something. Suddenly I got a call from Hats Off office and JD (J D Majethia, founder of Hats-Off Productions) said about the out of the world character in an out of the box show, and I agreed immediately.” Sumeet is not new to Hats Off and SAB TV family. In fact his two most famous shows Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai and Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo are associated with Hats Off and SAB TV respectively. While talking about his association with these two, Sumeet replied, “SAB TV is the only channel which provides a platform for sensible comedy, dedicated to audience. I am really grateful to Anooj Kapoor (Senior EVP and Business Head, SAB TV) and others for always backing me up from the time of Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo.” “With Hats Off I have had a ten years association. It all started with Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai. It was a small concept but it became a monster hit and a cult show and people are even now asking for a Season 2. I don’t know whether Sarabhai is coming back but I am coming back with Hats Off in Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai,” he added mischievously. Talking about competition with the channel’s popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which has been on for six years Sumeet explained, “I don’t want to work on the basis of which show stays for long or which show gets TRPs the most. I believe in positivity and my hard work. I always believe if we do good work the output will also be good. I don’t want to do a comparison. What I believe is don’t become Sachin Tendulkar. Become something else, make your own identity. I really hope Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai also goes far,” Sumeet replied with a smile on his face. All the best to you and your team, Sumeet!!
