Makers should take a risk in breaking the image of an actor by giving them different roles - Pratima Kannan

Pratima Kannan
Pratima Kannan, the versatile actress has gained a lot of fame and recognition, courtesy the role of the Nani in Colors’ Uttaran (Film Farm India). However, with the character not having enough prominence in the present story plot, the actress wants to look for greener pastures, and take up yet another challenging role. Says Pratima, “I am being hardly used in Uttaran for the past 7-8 months. I give them only 4 days a month, and this has brought in a creative hunger within me. I will now want to look for an interesting role, a major character.” Pratima who has a 20 years experience in theatre, being from the National School of Drama feels she has been typecast in negative roles, of late. “My only positive role came in Balaji Telefilms’ Kesar way back. Post that, there have been a series of negative performances on TV. I will want to break the shackle by taking up a positive role. After all, with my good theatre experience I can carry out any kind of role, whether good or bad. I have also had a stint in comedy with Comedy Circus. We as actors are ready to take up any role, but the makers should take some risk by breaking the image of an actor and giving them different roles.” Talking about her Uttaran journey, the actress avers, “The journey has been first-class. Nani is a very famous character, and I as an actor have got a lot of recognition for this role. However, with time, the importance of the character has lessened in the plot. I am not used as much as I used to be, in the past. I have a great rapport with the Producers Rupali and Pintoo Guha for over six years now, so I will stand by them till the show lasts. But I now want to look for a different role in addition to doing Uttaran.” Ask her if she will be interested in a controversial reality show like Bigg Boss and she states, “Of course. I will love to take up the show.” Pratima has recently shot for an upcoming movie of Sriram Raghavan, titled Badlapur. We wish you get a creatively satisfying role very soon!!
